Tips for an Organized Move

Packing and Moving and Storing, Oh My! – Does the thought of moving scare you? Allow me to set your mind at ease by proving an overview on how I accomplished an organized move.
Moving Story – Recently, the Lehr flock sold + moved from our house into a three month rental during the renovations of our new house. Now say that ten times fast!
Moving needs – Our Moving needs: pack, store, move into the rental, move from rental into new house, + move stored items into new house.
Turn To A Professional – We chose to hire a professional moving company even though we were moving locally. Our busy professional and personal schedules would not allow us the time to pack and move ourselves. Trusting a moving company ensured our move was successfully organized and stress free.
The Midas Touch – Our move required a company that could pack, move us into multiple locations and store. My realtor, Vicki Shearer, provided recommendations that could meet our needs. I always rely on personal recommendations from family and friends. I chose Midas Moving because they provided a turn key solution for our move. Their team of experienced packers and movers were professional, polite, and offered amazing service.
Should I Stay Or Should I Go – The next step was to identify furniture that would be sold prior to our move. The style of our new house, the Hacienda Project, is Santa Barbara chic. Remember to let items go if they do not bring you happiness.
Auction – I decided I would rather sell items before the move to eliminate the need to move and store furniture that would work in the new house. To accomplish this task I worked with Auction Nation .
Color Coded Label System – I created a coding system to help me determine belongings that would be moved into the rental, moved into storage, and would not be moved because they were on the auction.
Pink, Blue, + Green – My system was simple, color coding. I used three different colors of tape to assign three categories. I made multiple copies of the coded system and posted them through out the house. I began this process two weeks before the auction ended. I tagged furniture, art work, closets, and cabinets by color. The advantage of working in advance is that I could consider what I may need in the rental and make necessary changes.
Green – Items and accessories were moved to our rental.
Blue – Home accessories and furniture marked with blue tape were moved to storage for three months.
Midas + Ducks In A Row – I loved that the expert packers from Midas Moving incorporated my color coding with their packing system. Collaboration at its best!
Home Sweet Home – Happiness is unpacking your favorite things in your new nest!
