Tips To Achieve An Organized Closet + Wardrobe

Lets kick start 2018 with some simple tips to achieve an organized closet and therefore wardrobe. I must admit that I tend to follow my golden rule for my wardrobe, KISS // Keep It Simple + Stylish. Following the KISS method helps to achieve an organized closet.

I am loyal to my brands and style which has enabled me to achieve an organized closet. I am a Prep true and true, “The Official Preppy Handbook” was my style guide during the early 80’s. My tastes have matured over the years, however, as I reflect on photos it appears that my taste for preppy styles continue.

A simple trick to organize your diamond and pearl earrings is to use a silk ribbon.

One might say I am a little obsessed with Tory Burch, J Crew and David Yurman.  I consider it passion for the classic styles these brands offer, allowing me to add preppy chic pieces to my collection.  I still wear my pearls,Tretorn Women’s Nylite 2 Plus Metallic Stripe Lace Up Sneakers • Tretorn • $85 , and straw hats.

Straw hats and madras never go out of style.

 

My favorite Tory Burch Top-Stitch Hat • Tory Burch was the perfect accessory on our vacation to Spain in 2016. I only packed this hat and a foldable sun hat.

 

I keep my closet organized by keeping my style simple. I love a great Panama hat • J.Crew • $58  and pearls.

 

Follow the KISS method to achieve an organized wardrobe. I live in white jeans year round. My favorite are Petite 9″ high-rise toothpick jean in white • J.Crew and  Charlie Ankle Cut Skinny Jeans • Joe’s Jeans keep it simple and stylish by adding Tory Burch Minnie Leopard-Print Patent Leather Travel Ballet Flats • Tory Burch and a classic sweater or top.  I opt for either pearl or diamond stud earrings and my passion for stacked bracelets David Yurman Cable Classics Bracelet with Prasiolite and Diamonds • David Yurman

 

My style and activities influence how my closet is organized. My daily wardrobe begins with active attire, specifically Lululemon. My closet strategy begins from the left, active wear is organized by category, style, and color. In my case, we begin with Long sleeved shirts by color, followed by sleeveless.

The advantage of organizing longer items from the back to front is the ability to see my clothes clearly. I have found it is easy to lose sight of a sleeveless top if it is mixed in between long sleeves. Out of sight becomes out of mind which can lead to an unorganized closet.

 

I use Crystal Clear Hangers With Clips from The Container Store for my Lululemon pants and capris. Hanging bottoms by the waist with clips provides more available hanging space. Arrange your bottoms by length, begin with longest closest to the wall. Group bottoms by color to achieve an organized zone.

 

My husband and I share a walk in closet, sharing is caring. We have the closet pretty equally divided, just kidding I have a majority of the closet. There is one hanging section that we share, and it is used for our pants. I use Classic Tubular Hangers from The Container Store. I have achieved an even and organized row by using the same style for all of the pants.
I begin from the left side with my pattern pants followed by solid colors. My husbands pants begin the in the middle of the hanging space by type of pant and color. His shorts are hung with the Crystal Clear Hangers from The Containers store on the far right.

 

I organize my shoes by heel height, style, and color. Espadrilles are on the top, middle shelf holds my Ballet Flats, heels are reserved for the third shelf, and the bottom sections is reserved for my boots.

 

I love to use Boot Shapers for my boots. Boot Shapers prevent the boot leg from bending over. If you looking for a DIY Boot Shaper, use a pool noodle. Slide the pool noodle into the boot leg and cut to fit the length of your boots.

 

 

My last tip for an organized closet and wardrobe is to edit regularly. At least once a month I evaluate my inventory and pull items I have not worn in six months. Since I tend to purchase brand names I can sell my items at my local consignment store or Ebay.

It makes me happy to know that someone else may find joy in a Tory Burch sweater I haven’t worn in over six months. I have a Consignment spreadsheet I keep to track my sales. I justify some of my new wardrobe purchases knowing that I am simply reinvesting my earnings into my wardrobe.
